Self Defense While Honoring God

Self Defense While Honoring God

Chelle Blog, Education, Outreach

In a world filled with violence, it is crucial for young men and women to have a proper perspective on how to handle confrontation from a biblical perspective.  As a trained professional, Tim Pernie visited with us to share his skills with the young people in our neighborhood and the surrounding areas on what it means to serve God, love God, honor God, and maintain your composure in a biblical fashion if the need was to ever arise.

The experience and leadership qualities imparted to the group of eager ‘defendees’ was done in a mentoring fashion.  Showing a godly example of what it is to be a man of God is lacking in many of these children’s lives – Tim was able to explain what that meant and looked like not only in word, but in deed right before their eyes, and they loved every minute of it!  The best part was all of the positive feedback we received from not only the children, but the parents and adults in attendance, along with the schools after the fact.  The children gained insight into how to handle a confrontation, not with their fists, but with godly responses.  The physical part was understood to be only if necessary to defend yourself, but never to start anything or hurt anyone.  The understanding was translated even in how they responded to each other during the class – with honor and respect and humility!

The inspiration and example that Tim and Chesnie Pernie were able to give these young people led to God working even further in their lives.  Several of the teenage boys were so challenged in their hearts that they stayed around even after the Pernies had gone back home, and then came to our men’s retreat 2 months later!  To top that, a few of them were included in the ones who accepted Jesus and got baptized at the weekend retreat – God’s plan is so much greater than ours!  He is always multiplying things in the most amazing ways!

There is a large group of young men and women who are hoping and praying that we are able to offer another Godly training class, including us here at Relentless Ministries!

If you have skills that you would like to share from a biblical perspective with those we serve, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
